    Jesus Satisfies the Longing Soul

“Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” (‭Psalm‬ ‭107‬:‭4-9‬ ESV)

How are you today?  Are you wandering in a desert waste?  Are you hungry and thirsty within your heart?  Is your soul fainting within you?

Cry out to the Lord in your times of trouble and fully trust in Him to deliver you.

The Lord is good and gives good to those who trust in Him.

Jesus is the bread of life. He is the living water that by faith will satisfy your longing soul.

    Give Thanks to the Lord

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble” (‭Psalm‬ ‭107‬:‭1-2‬ ESV)

So often when we pray we take little or no time to praise the Lord and thank Him for who He is and His great love for us.  Devote your time in prayer today to praising Him and thanking Him for His steadfast love and the salvation He gives by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Shout for Joy to The Lord

“Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.”  (‭Psalm‬ ‭66‬:‭1-4‬ ESV)

Rejoice in the Lord today. He is great and greatly to be praised.

He created all things. He created you. He loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.

Praise Him and walk in His love, joy, and peace today.

My Help Comes From the Lord

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” (‭Psalm‬ ‭121‬:‭1-8‬ ESV)

Where do you look first when you are in need of help?  Often we look to the resources of this world. Family members, friends, or others to come to our rescue.

We should first look to the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. He knows our needs. He is never sleeping or too busy to save us. He is our keeper and savior. Trust in Him today.

    Alive in Christ

“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” (‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭13-14‬ ESV)

As we approach Easter it is fitting that we think about the forgiveness of sins we have through Jesus’ death on the cross and the living hope we have through His resurrection from the dead.

It is amazing to me the love that God has for a rebel like me. I was dead in my sins. I was an enemy to God who deserved wrath for my sins against Him, yet He chose to love me and give me forgiveness and life with Christ.

This verse uses a financial debt as an image of the forgiveness we have received from our sins. Our sins pile up like a huge debt that can never be repaid. No amount of good works or sacrifice will ever bring our account balance to 0.

Without the grace of God we are spiritually bankrupt.

So Christ took that debt of sin and paid the wrath we deserve for it Himself on the cross. He died the death we deserve. Our certificate of sin debt was nailed to the cross.

Think about that amazing love today and praise the Lord Jesus for His great mercy and grace and love.

    The Magesty of the Lord

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (‭Psalm‬ ‭8‬:‭1-9‬ ESV)

Give praise to the Lord who created the heavens and the earth.

Give praise to the Lord who is mindful of you and cares for you.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Create In Me a Clean Heart

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” (‭Psalm‬ ‭51‬:‭1-2, 10-12, 16-17‬ ESV)

This psalm was written after David committed a horrible sin that would forever change his life and the kingdom of Israel. The Bible describes David as a “man after God’s own heart,” yet he acknowledges he is a sinner in need of salvation that can only come from the Lord.  David sinned against God by committing adultery with Bathsheba. He then had Bathsheba’s husband killed in battle so that he could take her as his own wife. Nathan the prophet confronted David concerning his sin which resulted in David writing the words to Psalm 57.

We are sinners in need of salvation just like David. This psalm teaches us that God is the one who can clean us from our sins. God is the one who has to wash us. The Bible tells us in John 3:16 that He does this by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Confess your sins to God and ask Him to create a clean heart within you. Then walk in the joy of His salvation today and forevermore.

Great Are The Works of the Lord

“Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy; they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name! The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!” (‭Psalm‬ ‭111‬:‭1-10‬ ESV)

Trust in the Lord today and delight in His work in your life. He is building faith, character, patience, kindness, and love in you as you put your trust in Him.

These are the great works of God in a believer’s life.

His greatest work is our redemption by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Let’s praise Him and thank Him for that wonderful work of salvation today.

    God Satisfies the Longing Soul

“Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” (‭Psalm‬ ‭107‬:‭4-9‬ ESV)

Sometimes in life we feel like we are wandering in a desert waste.  Things aren’t working out the way we had hoped. Relationships break down. Health fails us.  We lose our job. Our finances are depleted.  Sometimes it is one of these circumstances, sometimes many of them together that weigh us down and cause our soul to faint within us.

It is in these times we learn that the things of this world never satisfy the deep hunger and longings of our souls.

We fall to our knees and cry out to God.  He delivers those who trust in Him from their distress.

Cry out to God today and put your trust in Him.  He satisfies the longing soul, and the soul hungry for Him He fills with good things.
