    Abound in Hope

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13

Sometimes life feels hopeless. There are problems and struggles everywhere. Often we focus on the problems and struggles and can’t see past them to the great mercy and love that God has for us. I pray today we can look to Jesus and be filled with His joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit we can not just have hope again, but abound in it.

    Be Humble

“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” Romans 12:3

Pride is a killer. It kills our relationship with God and with others. Let’s put away pride and seek humility, love, and service toward others today.

    Love Each Other

These words of Romans 12:15-20 give a vivid description of what it looks like to love your neighbor as yourself:

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

This is a simple teaching, but not an easy one. It’s easy to love people who love us. Anyone can do that. God wants us to take our love deeper and further than what comes naturally to us. He wants us to take our love to our enemies. Those who say mean things about us. Those who do us harm. We are to show them love and even bless them. This can only be done through prayer and being filled with the Spirit of God.

Ask the Lord to help you love today. Even to love your enemies. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit and give you peace in your heart do to this. And then watch Him work as He changes your hate to love.

    Forgive and Be Kind

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:12-15

God has chosen and forgiven you, so you also must forgive and show kindness and love to others.

    The Cure for Worry

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7 NLT

When we pray and trust we trade worry for peace and joy. Live in and direct your thoughts to Jesus today and feel His peace, joy and love.

    Let’s Not Judge Others

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:1-5

Pride often wells up within us and compels us to judge others to make us feel better than them. Pride is a deadly sin that leads to self-righteousness. God hates that. Take note of who Jesus most often corrected and became angry with. It was the prideful religious leaders, not the humble sinners who asked him for mercy.

The next time you feel compelled to judge and criticize others, take a look in the mirror and into your own soul. There’s plenty to fix in there. Focus on yourself and your own walk with the Lord. Jesus can take care of the person you feel you need to fix. Let’s walk in humility and kindness today and love our neighbor as ourself for the glory of Jesus.

    Keep on Asking

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:7-11

In the Greek language the commands here are to “keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking…” God hears our prayers and knows our every need. He loves and cares for each of us and provides for our every need. Keep on asking, seeking, and knocking. Trust Him today and feel his rest and peace in your soul.

    The Cure for Anxiety

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:25-34

We are often anxious about our lives. Our finances, our health, our living situation, our jobs, our relationships…. God knows exactly what we need. He provides exactly what we need when we need it. Now we may not always get what we want. Wants are different than needs. If we always gave our children what they want they would only ever eat cotton candy. 🙂

Trust in the Lord today and rest in Him. Seek Him and His kingdom today, and all that you need will be provided. Find rest and peace in Jesus today.

    Cry Out To The Lord

    “Some wandered in desert wastes,
    finding no way to a city to dwell in;
    hungry and thirsty,
    their soul fainted within them.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by a straight way
till they reached a city to dwell in.
Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!
For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” Psalm 107:4-7

God hears our prayers and cries for help. He answers and He delivers. His steadfast love endures forever.
